Congratulations to Grant Recipient Professor Yu-chung Lee and his collaborators for being Named as a Recipient of the first prize of I Certamen de Seminarios Duques de Soria de Hispanismo Internacional

The Foundation is pleased to announce that one of our grant recipients from the Domestic Region, Professor Yu-chung Lee, associate professor of history at National Tsing-hua University, and his collaborators, have been awarded the first prize of I Certamen de Seminarios Duques de Soria de Hispanismo Internacional. Their project explores the encounter of Chinese and Spanish on the shores of South China Sea by decipering a series of grammar books of Hokkien dialect and Chinese-Spanish dictionary. The prize was presidented by Fundación Duques de Soria de Cienica y Cultura Hispánica, a nonprofit organization which is supported by Spanish Royal Family and aims to promote the studies of Spanish language and culture.

Professor Lee’s areas of expertise include regional history of modern China and Southeast Asia, history of the Philippines, and Taiwan History in 16th-17th Century. He was a recipient of the Foundation’s Dissertation Fellowships for ROC Students Abroad in European Region for 1999-20, Database Grant in Domestic Region for 2015-18, and Publication Subsidies for 2018-19 in Domestic Region to publish part of the Hokkien-Spanish Historical Document Series. The Foundation is deeply proud of Professor Lee’s outstanding accomplishments having earned recognition in the form of this great honor.
