Collection of Essays on Chinese Environmental History

The goal of this project was to publish the results of a large-scale conference on Chinese environmental history in a volume edited by Liu Ts’ui-jung 劉翠溶 and Mark Elvin. The papers for this volume covered a broad range of topics researched by scholars from Taiwan, Japan, the United States, and Europe, including settlement patterns, frontier regions, climate, disease, etc. The Chinese volume (積漸所至：中國環境史論文集) was published by Academia Sinica’s Institute of Economic in 1995, while the English volume (Sediments of Time: Environment and Society in Chinese History) was published by Cambridge University Press three years later.
