President Chu devoted considerable time to a trip to Beijing, where he met with Yuanxiang Han, a Vice-Chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation. During his stay, President Chu also had meetings with representatives from the China Association for International Friendship Contact, Peking University, University of International Relations, and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, all in the interests of enhancing scholarly exchanges.
