Professor Benjamin Penny from the School of Culture, History, and Language at the Australian National University visited and was received by President Chun-i Chen. Professor Penny is a direct disciple of the renowned Sinologist Professor Liu Ts’un-yan, with primary research areas in Daoism and emerging religions in Taiwan.
The purposes of Professor Penny’s visit were twofold: first, to express gratitude for the Foundation’s past support of her research project, and second, to inquire about possible funding opportunities for Sinologists in Australia following the Foundation’s cessation of grant programs in the Asia-Pacific region.
President Chen explained that due to budget constraints, the Foundation had to discontinue its funding programs in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the Foundation has partnered with the National University of Singapore to establish the "CCKF-NUS Southeast Asia Centre for Chinese Studies" in July this year. This center will organize conferences, lectures, and other academic activities to connect Sinologists and academic communities across Southeast Asia, with Australian scholars included.
